As you have probably already discovered, the Dental Assistant program at First Institute is a great place to start your Dental Assistant training. It consists of in-depth curriculum accompanied with hands-on training activities. It is easy to admit that the list of classes may seem overwhelming and daunting at first glance, but classes at First Institute offer a great overall insight into the basics of dentistry.
The Dental Assistant classes that make up the program include:
- Admin Procedures
- Oral Health and Endodontics
- Anatomy and Morphology
- Dental Science
- Operative and Chair Side Assisting
- Dental Radiology
In admin procedures, oral health and endodontics students will be taught basic administrative duties such as properly scheduling patients for appointments, greeting patients, sending bills, processing payments, inventorying supplies and many more. They will also learn the foundational concepts of oral health and endodontics. This can consist of learning the ins and outs of dental diseases and conditions. Endodontics refers to the dental treatment of the root and root canal therapy, which is another important aspect of dentistry discussed in this course. Through anatomy and morphology, students will focus on the human body and the internal structure of bones and organs. Dental science covers a variety of topics including dental health prevention and treatment. As you continue through the program, operative and chair side assisting and dental radiology are two other important classes you will be required to complete. These classes consist of learning about preparing instrument trays, handing instruments to the dentist during an exam, how to properly use certain equipment and tools and assisting with dental x-rays.
The instructors and professors are available and want to help you succeed through these classes. There are also many other important factors of your dental assisting career that you will learn from the Dental Assistant classes and dental assisting externship at First Institute.
