Students and alumni of First Institute’s Medical Assistant program should consider joining a medical assisting professional organization to keep up to date with industry trends, regulations and professional advancement. In the medical assisting field, the American Registry of Medical Assistants is one of the more widely recognized certifying organizations.
As a national registry, the non-profit association serves to advance the status and professionalism of the medical assistant. ARMA provides, through publications, current medical and social information of interest of the medical assistant, and works to be of service to its members whenever possible. Incorporated in 1950, ARMA membership is in the many thousands and is represented by every U.S. state.
As more and more physicians and medical facilities around the country require their medical assistants to be registered or certified through a state or national agency, ARMA members hold a competitive edge over medical assisting hopefuls who don’t seek out this important credential.
ARMA membership is available to healthcare specialists at almost any stage in their career – students, educators and current medical assisting professionals can all apply. To ensure that all participants are maintaining their standing in the medical field and advancing in the profession to the best of their ability, 12 Continuing Educational Units are required of each member per year, along with standard annual dues.
